    Considered as the largest reef system in the world, the Great Barrier Reef is made up of over 2,900 reefs and 900 islands. It is situated in the Coral Sea in Queensland, Australia. This reef can be seen from the outer space and it houses a rich diversity of marine life and is a World Heritage Site. The reef is the only living thing that is visible outside the Earth and it is larger than the Great Wall of China. It is also considered as among the seven natural wonders of the world. It is also named as a state icon of Queensland by the Queensland National Trust.

    Many tourists choose the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park as there travel destination. This is very popular especially to the adventurous scuba divers. They are amused with the richness of the Great Barrier Reef in terms of corals. The reef is also the breeding site of humpback whales from the Antarctic and you will find there some of the endangered species like the Green Sea Turtles and the Sea Cow. Its brilliant garden of corals will surely give anyone who visits the place a superb underwater experience.

    During winter/dry season in May to October, there will always be sunshine and the weather is not very humid. While during the Summer/Wet season which is from November to April, there will be occasional rainfall. It is however best to swim around Queensland during the months of April to October

  • Getting There

    By Plane

    You can reach Cairns by plane from Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, and Bali. And there are also flights from different cities in Australia.

    By Train

    When you are in Sydney, Australia, it will be a two-day trip to Cairns. You can go for a train ride to Brisbane which will be 14 hours and spend some time of the day there. And then ride for Cairns for about a whole day.

    By Bus

    There is a bus pass that caters unlimited travel from Sydney to Cairns and vice versa. It will take a few hours longer than a train ride.
